Change is in the air at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. In fact, there are two new shakeups on the horizon that are sure to make 2024 an exciting year to be a DVC member. First, Disney is bringing trust-based ownership to the DVC Cabins at Fort Wilderness. Second, an opening date has finally been set for the new cabins at this Disney World resort. With all this exciting Walt Disney World news, you probably have a few questions. “What is trust-based ownership?” “What does it mean for Disney Vacation Club?” “When can I visit Fort Wilderness’ new cabins?” No worries, we’ve got you covered! We’ll be answering all of these questions down below!
Trust-Based Ownership is Coming to the DVC Cabins at Fort Wilderness
Have you ever wished your Disney Vacation Club ownership was a little more flexible? While DVC points give timeshare owners plenty of options for how to vacation already, the brand might be looking to take that flexibility to the next level. Disney Vacation Development is set to introduce trust-based ownership with DVC Cabins at Fort Wilderness. Here’s the rundown on just what that might mean for the resorts at Walt Disney World.
What is Trust-Based Ownership?
Trust-based ownership is a practice where several timeshare resorts are grouped together into a trust. Owners can then buy into the trust, giving them access to that specific group of resorts. The number of resorts featured in a plan can vary, but Disney Vacation Club isn’t the first brand to dip their toes into trust-based ownership. Club Wyndham Access gives its members a certificate that allows them to stay at a specific group of resorts. Many of these trusts also come with the added benefit of allowing owners to have advanced membership priorities at all of the resorts within the trust, instead of just one resort. In this way, buying into a trust is like having multiple home resorts all at once! This comes with additional flexibility, but in exchange, owners will likely be competing with more travelers hoping to reserve a certain time at a resort.
What Does Trust-Based Ownership Mean for DVC Cabins at Fort Wilderness?
Currently, only the Fort Wilderness Cabins at DVC are part of a trust, so it’s unclear at the moment how ownership at other resorts may be affected by this move. In fact, anyone who purchases timeshares at this Disney Vacation Club resort is unlikely to notice anything different for the time being. Changes will likely become more apparent once other resorts are added to the trust, but for now, anything else would be speculation. With that said, trust-based ownership isn’t the only change coming up at Disney Vacation Club.
DVC’s Fort Wilderness Cabins Have a Projected Opening Date
As of now, the new cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are projected to open on July 1st, 2024! Disney Vacation Club members can look forward to sales for this Disney Vacation Club resort starting on February 1st. Then, DVC members who have added on points at the Fort Wilderness Cabins can book sales on February 15th. The general public will have to wait a little longer, as sales for them won’t be open until February 27th. If you’re a new member who sets the Cabins as their home resort, you’ll be able to book online starting March 12th. Finally, all DVC members can begin booking stays after April 23rd.
